These nutrients boost immune systems which help to protect us from illness and disease, improve circulation and metabolism, regulate blood-sugar as well as improve general gut health.
Hemp has a subtle nutty flavour and is a great way to boost nutrition in any sweet or savoury dishes. It is particularly good in smoothies, bliss balls and desserts.
For muscle growth and repair- consume 1-3 hemp protein shakes/ day which can be with milk or water for quicker absorption.
Hemp plants are from the ‘cannabis sativa’ species, but while the plants look similar they have very different properties. Hemp plants are non-psychoactive varieties of cannabis and have an insignificant amount of THC.
On 28 April 2017, trans-Tasman ministers approved a change to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. The change will allow the use of hemp seed as a food for human consumption. However, the Government has to change some laws before that can happen. These law changes are expected to be completed by mid 2018. In the meantime Hemp products other than hemp oil are only allowed to be sold for animal consumption in NZ and Australia.
When buying hemp as a food product, manufactured to human food grade, please do so to consume in a country where hemp is legal- which is every country other than New Zealand.
